Media ︎︎︎  Digital

36 Days of Type began in 2014 as a personal project for a group of designers where they took up the challenge of creating typography everyday. Since then it has grown on Instagram as a yearly phenomenon where designers and illustrators alike post their daily letter/number for 36 days. These are the submissions of my second year participating in 2023. This time I used this project as an opportunity to draw intuitively using natural forms paired with bold colors.

Coulter Company is a marketing agency who is dedicated to their client’s immediate and long-term success. Their Growth by Design model needed to be reflected in a unique but inconspicuous logo. The logo was crafted with the Head Designer and Directors of Marketing and Media at Coulter Company. As Head Designer at Coulter, I took the reins on this project to develop a logo that would work alongside a client's existing branding while retaining its distinct character. I also created brand guidelines for future use of the logo. Marketing Directors Cat Thoreson and Julie Gochar served as consults and critics throughout the project.

Plantas de Curación

Professors ︎︎︎  Isaac Gertmann, Jason Gottlieb
Year ︎︎︎  2021
Type ︎︎︎  Illustration, Publication
Media ︎︎︎  Print

Plantas de Curación is a Graphic Design BFA Thesis Project that uplifts anecdotal beliefs of medicinal uses for flora. It focuses on practices from Mexico, my father’s homeland, and Puerto Rico where my mother is from. I collected information from a combination of sources including my family’s verbal recollection and practical use, my memories, and research from various online and analog sources. The following book is in both English and Spanish and includes several diagrams to support the text. I want to document this knowledge and establish its importance as a living resource that illuminates the influence of shared knowledge and heritage.

The completion of this 138 page book was made possible with the enthusiastic direction of Isaac Gertmann and Jason Gottlieb through the Maryland Institute College of Art Graphic Design Program.

Tierra: Earth Museum

Professor ︎︎︎  Minsun O
Year ︎︎︎  2021
Type ︎︎︎  Branding
Media ︎︎︎  Digital, Print, Web

I created this project with the direction of Minsun O and my cohort of the Graphic Design BFA program at the Maryland Institute College of Art. Tierra: Earth Museum is a hypothetical museum that will allow visitors to reconnect with the community in which they live through experiential, tactile, and informative exhibitions. The museum’s primary focus is to encourage a deeper understanding of the environment and people that live in this environment. It covers a large scope of subjects that are represented by colors: Orange for Geology, Aqua for Flora and Fauna, Yellow for First Peoples, Pink for Art and Culture, and Blue for Community. These colors help establish the colorful mood of the brand and are seen across a variety of digital, print, and web deliverables.

Making to Transgress Vol. 2

Professor ︎︎︎  Elaine Lopez
Advisor ︎︎︎  Akshita Chandra
Year ︎︎︎  2020
Type ︎︎︎  Illustration, Publication
Media ︎︎︎  Print

This collaborative, four-book publication contains responses to four notable literary works on transgressive teaching and topics of race. The designs range in style from typographic, illustrative, and photographic work.

Besides co-designing the covers, my work in this project includes one response in each mini-book that corresponds to one of the following: Teaching to Transgress by bell hooks, How to Do Nothing by Jenny Odell, Listening to Non-Western Perspectives by Sohail Inayatullah, and Nothing Personal by James Baldwin. With each reading, I rated each of the characteristics out of five and used the resulting numbers to decide the amount of stamping for each piece. On top, I overlaid illustrations that evoked the emotional response I experienced from each text and the corresponding title.
